September 2020 President's Notes

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… FALL!  After a long, hot summer, the brisk fall weather is a welcome sight.  Why do I love fall running so much?

The temperature:  summer running is too hot, winter running is too cold and dark, spring running is too wet (call me Goldilocks, fine!).  But fall is the perfect combination of warm sunny days and cool mornings.  All you need is a light jacket (cue the Miss Congenitally movie references here)!

Goal races:  Typically, this is the time of year when all your training comes to fruition.  The past 12-16 weeks spent steadfastly following your training plan will all be worth it when your “goal race” arrives.  The Montana Marathon (any distance) is my go-to goal race.

New gear:  After completing my goal race, I like to treat myself to a new pair of running shoes as a reward and as a motivator to keep logging those (eventual) winter miles.

Food:  A list of running perks wouldn’t be complete without mentioning food.  Nothing beats coming home from a brisk run to the smell of warm soup, pumpkin cookies, apple muffins, hot lattes...  Yum.

What’s your favorite running season and why?
